Four Months Left
I have been here for almost seven months now; I can’t believe how fast the time has went! It seems only yesterday I was going to the first orientation and meeting all of the other exchange students…
February was a thoroughly uneventful month for me. The Chinese New Year was on February 18th (the same day as my birthday) but my then current host family didn’t celebrate it because they are Christian. I was a little disappointed because I had been really looking forward to experiencing it. On the 19th we went down a little south of the island (to Haulien) to visit my host mothers family. We stayed there for three days in which time we visited Toroko George and saw the movie Ghost rider. Unfortunately, I have been having some problems with my external hard drive and am not able to get any pictures off of it to post!
The week of February 18th school was not in session, it began again the following week. I enjoyed have a little bit of time off and even got to sleep in a couple days!
On March third I moved to my third host family. Here I have two host brothers and my host parents. My younger brother is 16 and lives at his school from Monday through Friday so I only get to see him on weekends. My older host brother is 23 and he is currently doing mandatory military service so I get to see him once every couple of weeks. I am liking my current host family a lot and they seem to like me as well. They speak Chinese with me all the time (something I have a problem getting people to do because they all want to practice their English or refuse to accept that a white girl can speak Chinese) so it has been improving exponentially!
School has been pretty regular, I usually have the morning to practice Chinese and to get unfinished things finished. In the afternoons I go to class with the other exchange student in my school. We take art, PE, home economics, computer class, living technology and… I think that’s it. I have also asked for calligraphy class so hopefully I will be doing that again soon!
Thursday nights I take a water colour class with another exchange student where I am learning how to paint. I will have my second class tomorrow night where we will start painting so you can expect to see a masterpiece soon! (Please don't hold me to this though)
I have no other news for you but when I do I will be sure to post it! I’ll try to find a couple pictures to put up with this post but since I am having problems with my external drive I’m not sure how many I can find. I miss you all lots and I’ll be seeing you before you can say 我愛台灣!
Much Love;
Karly

Hey Karly! It is so nice to hear what's new with you. I really look forward to reading each and every one of your posts, and looking at the pictures when there is some. It is extremely hard to believe that 7 months have passed already, and when you mentioned that...I realized that we only have a few weeks left of school in our first year of college/university (well, most except for me as I have to go until May 25!) I know I am excited for your return to Canada, as I am sure many others are too. Unfortunately I have to wait a little longer to see you (until I get back from Europe), but I know when I get back we will have to have another reunion of all the friends before it's back to school!!! Take care, have fun and keep practicing that Chinese (I'd like to hear it sometime). Lots of love, Kristy.
HI Karl; Glad to see your new post sounds like things are much better with your new host family. We are working away at your new room. The new wall paper looks great and is ready for painting. I hope you like the colors orange, yellow, brown and green..I am currently putting down new tiles in the bathroom (blue)and then it will be my turn to work at your new bedroom again. You will have at least 5 electrical outlets. Just a word of advise read over your blog posts before you send them out..I always take a second read just in case there are a few grammatical errors..you have ots of good content. Don't forget we are looking for new pictures. Love ya lots Karl and miss you. Randall
Sounds eventful! You've been there quite a long time! Holy cow, it's too bad you didn't really get to experience the full Chinese New Year.
